Vitamins and Minerals
Vitamins and MineralsVitamins are organic substances that are essential for life. They are found in food and derived from both animals and plants.  Vitamins are so called micronutrients, because the amounts that are required for normal functioning are minuscule, yet vitamins perform very important tasks.  Among other things, vitamins help us digest our food, fight infection, and manufacture new cells. With rare exceptions, vitamins cannot be manufactured by the body, and must be obtained from food or supplements. Vitamins help our bodies operate at peak efficiency.
Since most people in today's hurried world don't have time to eat regular nutritious meals, it is important to supplement our diet with vitamins. It is especially important that we receive the highest quality product in a form that will be quickly and easily absorbed.   And  it is difficult to obtain the necessary vitamins and minerals from food because of mineral-deficient soils that are common throughout the world today. It only takes 10 years of intensive farming to exhaust the minerals in any tract of land. The depletion of necessary nutrients by cooking and processing living foods adds to the difficulty in obtaining vital minerals and vitamins from our food.    Severe vitamin deficiencies will result in serious illnesses. Even a modest deficiency in certain vitamins, can have a profound effect on health.

Vitamin E- can help control hot flashes and vaginal dryness, protect against heart disease and some psychological symptoms - like mood swings, fatigue and anxiety - when taken with other nutrients like potassium, magnesium, the B vitamins and bioflavonoids.  Mega doses of anything can be risky, so caution is needed. Vitamin E is usually not good for anyone with high blood pressure, diabetes or a rheumatic heart condition. Too much vitamin E may also cause liver problems.

Vitamin C - can help strengthen capillaries and lessen the effect of vasomotor disturbances that can cause those a annoying hot flashes. Vitamin C is an anti-stress vitamin that has some calming effects.  It can also slow excessive menstrual bleeding, speed wound and burn healing, and maintain collagen, the main supportive protein of the skin, tendons, bones, cartilage and connective tissue.

B complex- is an anti-stress compound.  VitaminsB1 (thiamine), B2 (riboflavin), B3 (niacin), B5 (pantothenic acid) and B6 (pyridoxine), together with vitamin C can give relief from migraine headaches. Vitamin B6 in mild doses usually works as a natural diuretic, counteracting the water retention that makes us feel bloated.

Mineralsare naturally occurring chemical elements found throughout the human body in the bones, muscles, teeth, blood and nerve cells.  Minerals help to maintain a normal water balance within the body, regulating the breakdown of sugar and carbohydrates (chromium), helps form red blood cells and maintain nerve tissue (cobalt), strengthening bones and teeth (fluoride), regulating the thyroid (iodine), stimulate a healthy immune system (iron), fighting cancer cells (manganese), essential for protein synthesis and a healthy nervous system (molybdenum), destroying free radicals with vitamin E (selenium), antibiotic capabilities (sulfur), helping wounds heal, production of white blood cells (zinc).  Minerals are involved in virtually every activity from immune function to the beating of our hearts.

Calcium - is the most abundant mineral in the human body. Roughly 99% of the body's calcium is found in the teeth and bones. Calcium is instrumental in muscle contraction, blood clotting, and maintenance of cell membranes, and plays a critical role in the normal     functioning of the heart.  This is important because heart disease in women increases after menopause. One of the most devastating effects of menopause is bone loss, which leads to fractures, spine curvature, and tooth loss. Calcium supplements are advised for menopausal women, although it is beneficial to begin sufficient calcium intake at an early age. Calcium can also help with emotional stresses. Vitamin D increases calcium absorption in the body, and magnesium appears to regulate the flow of calcium between cells.

Magnesium - the mineral is essential for strong bones and is also heart-healthy.  Magnesium can help to prevent insulin resistance, that is, the inability to use insulin efficiently to turn glucose into energy.  As a result of insulin resistance, glucose levels rise, which can lead to diabetes and heart disease.

Calcium alone is insufficient to maintain a healthy body; we also need magnesium and potassium to assist calcium in its essential functions. These three nutrients work together to contact and relax muscles, maintain a healthy nervous system.  Without the balancing influence provided by calcium, magnesium and potassium, damage can occur to the arteries, especially those leading to the heart  and brain, constricting the flow of blood to these organs.  The result can be high blood pressure, heart attacks, stroke and migraine headaches.

A short note about a one of a kind supplement containing the "other" essential elements in a biologically available form.  I mention it because I don't think you can find a worthwhile supplement of this kind  anywhere else.
